2025 Cowboy Gun Introductions

Welcome to a “Rootin-Tootin” 2025 Cowboy Guns new year! There is lots of enthusiasm in the firearms industry as a more “gun-friendly” administration now resides in the White House. Folks will not be looking over their collective shoulders watching for gun grabbers to head them off at the pass. Under the category of Cowboy Guns, we offer a short synopsis of handguns, rifles and shotguns that will be of interest to those involved in Cowboy Action Shooting. Of course, there are a finite number of firearms that fall under this classification; not all of these will be new, but may be new versions of an older model. We also cover anything new in ammunition and accessories like leather rigs for your shooting iron.

Fashioned from stainless steel, it has 3-inch barrels, a spur trigger and exposed hammer, and can be had in .357 Mag./.38 Spl. or .45LC/.410. Its two-piece stocks are made of rosewood and are checkered, with a five-point star emblem. List price is $543. (Model BACD).

EMF Co. U.S. Marshal

2025 Cowboy Guns - EMF Co. U.S. Marshal

This fine-looking Single Action Army replica has a 4.75-inch barrel and cylinder finished in blue with a color case-hardened frame, plus the grip frame/trigger guard is brass. The one-piece walnut stocks are laser-engraved with a U.S. Marshal badge. It is chambered in .357 Mag., so it also accepts .38 Spl. and .38 Long Colt cartridges. A bonus is a 9mm cylinder that can be swapped out for the .357 cylinder, allowing the shooter to practice with budget-priced 9mm ammo. List price is $652.89 (SKU HF357CHBR434NMU).

EMF/Pietta Premier Single Action

New for 2025 from the Custom Shop, this Single Action Army replica is made using old-world techniques in color case-hardening, bluing and hand-checkering. The walnut stocks are Grade III and checkered, while the screws, cylinder pin and ejector head are nitride blue. Both frame and hammer have colorful hues of blue, gray and copper. This fine sixgun can be had with a 4.75-, 5.5- (shown) or 7.5-inch barrel and chambered in .357 Mag., .44-40 WCF or .45 Colt. No MSRP information is available as yet.

Heritage Mfg. Rough Rider Wyatt Earp

Heritage Mfg. Rough Rider Wyatt Earp

With shades of the O.K. Corral, Heritage has a new special edition Rough Rider SA sixgun dubbed the “Wyatt Earp.” Chambered in .22 LR, it has a 12-inch barrel, mimicking the legendary “Buntline Special,” with a black oxide finish, a black oxide cylinder and a simulated color case frame. The wood grips are laser-engraved with an image of Wyatt Earp. Like all Rough Riders, it has a unique manual hammer-block safety built into the left recoil shield. Perfect for inexpensive practice or getting your buckaroos into cowboy-style shooting, it has a budget price of $243.73 (UPC 7-27-962-70478-3) and for $29.99 you can add a .22 WMR cylinder. Heritage also offers a leather holster.

Pietta 1851 Gettysburg Union Commemorative

Pietta_Gettysburg_1851_Navy

The battle of Gettysburg marked a major turning point in the Civil War for the Union. Pietta USA is now making an “Old Silver” finished version of the Colt Model 1851 Navy commemorating this battle.

On the sides of the 7.5-inch barrel are banners with quotes from Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. The right side has “A House Divided Against Itself Cannot Stand,” while on the left side is “This Nation Under God Shall Have A New Birth of Freedom.”

Further back by the barrel wedge assembly, on both sides, are crossed CSA and USA flags. Around the circumference of the cylinder is a Civil War battle scene and between the bolt-locking notches are five-pointed stars. The forward portion of the frame has a banner on each side with “CS 1861-1865 US,” plus the right side above the trigger is crossed sabers, with crossed bugles on the other side. The stocks are one-piece walnut and this .36 caliber percussion sixgun is fully functional. List price is $419.99 (UPC 641996730689).

Lipsey’s/Ruger Vaquero .357

Ruger Vaquero 357

Absent from the line for some 20 years, Ruger has re-introduced the stainless-steel Vaquero in .357 Mag. with a 7.5-inch barrel. It has a high-gloss finish, set off by the laminated, two-piece rosewood grips, which are smooth and have the Ruger medallion. The grip frame is the small XR-3 type, which I find fills my hand the best. It has a blade front sight and notch rear sight and transfer bar safety feature. It weighs 47 ounces empty and the MSRP is $1099 (UPC 736676051700).

Taurus Deputy Sixgun

Taurus Deputy Sixgun

Taurus recently re-entered the SA six-shooter market with a hogleg they call the Deputy. It very much resembles the Colt SAA in looks, function and dimensions, but differs from the original with an internal transfer-bar safety. This allows the user to safely carry all six chambers loaded.

You do get the traditional “four clicks” as you bring the hammer back to full-cock. It’s available with either a 4.75- or 5.5-inch barrel in .357 Mag./.38 Spl. or .45 Colt. It has a superb polished black-oxide finish and two-piece, checkered polymer stocks. Trigger pull weight is set at the factory to be 4 pounds, 6 ounces. MSRP is $606.99 (.45 Colt 4.75 inch UPC 7-25327-63155-2).

2025 Cowboy Guns | Lever-Actions

Chiappa LA 322 T.D. Standard Rifle

Chiappa LA 322 T.D. Standard Rifle

Reminiscent of the much-missed Marlin Model 39, this popularly-priced .22 LR lever-action rifle is a takedown model. It separates into barrel and receiver half/buttstock and receiver half by the removal of a large screw. It has an 18.5-inch, blue-steel barrel and black-anodized alloy receiver. Its tubular magazine has a 15-round capacity, and it comes with a hooded front sight mated with a buckhorn-style, adjustable rear sight. The exposed hammer has a half-cock for safety and the lever is a standard-type. It also comes with a straight-wrist buttstock and forend made of what’s described as “English Style Wood,” with a net weight of 2.8 pounds. The listed price is $454.81 (UPC: 8053670717282), which in my book is a great bargain.

Cimarron Firearms 1873 Nueces Rifle

Cimarron Firearms 1873 Nueces Rifle

This fine replica of the Winchester 1873 lever-action rifle honors famed Texas Ranger Captain Leander H. McNeely, who commanded the “Special Force.” McNeely, a Civil War veteran and former Texas State Police captain was a fearless fighter who brought justice to the Nueces Strip along the Rio Grande River. On one of his adventures, he took his Rangers into Mexico to recover stolen cattle. McNeely suffered an untimely death due to tuberculosis.

This commemorative rifle has a 24.25-inch barrel, which is stamped with a “T*S” – the same stamp used on rifles issued to the Texas Rangers. Chambered in .45 Colt, its beautiful hand-rubbed, oil-finished stock and forend, set off the classic old metal blue finish. MSRP is $1768.88 (SKU: CA2066B1401).

GForce Arms Saddle Horn Rifle

GForce Arms Saddle Horn Rifle

I just recently became aware of this company that is importing a Model 92 replica from Turkey that’s very interesting. The version here has a black-anodized aluminum receiver that keeps the net weight down to just 5.5 pounds. With a 20-inch, blue-steel barrel and chambered in .357 Mag., it has a cartridge capacity of 10+1 rounds. It has a step-adjustable rear sight, a HIVIZ front sight (not SASS or NCOWS legal), Turkish walnut stock (with rubber buttpad) and forend. The slightly oversized finger lever is leather wrapped. Current pricing for this model (GFLVR357) is around $693.99.

Heritage Mfg. 92 Series Rifle

Heritage Mfg. 92 Series Rifle

In the very recent past, Heritage Manufacturing has expanded its offering from their standard Rough Rider .22 RF SA revolvers to long guns. They now offer Winchester Model 1892 reproductions under the 92 Series. The one I’m looking at is in .357 Mag. and has a blued alloy steel 24-inch octagonal barrel and alloy steel receiver.

It comes with a post-type front sight, semi-buckhorn adjustable rear sight and a thumb safety on top of the receiver, just ahead of the hammer. The hardwood stock has a recoil pad and the Heritage brand near the toe on either side. The forend has a blue steel cap. MSRP is a reasonable $977.99 (UPC 7-27962-70977-1).

IFG/Pedersoli Texas Ranger

IFG/Pedersoli Texas Ranger

Constructed on the same Model 1886 platform as the Tascosa, the new Italian Firearms Group Ranger model is a tribute to last year’s 200th anniversary. On the right side of the checkered American walnut pistol-grip buttstock is a replica gold Texas Ranger badge. On the left side of the color case-hardened receiver sits their famous slogan, “One Riot – One Ranger.” This handsome lever-gun is chambered in .45-70, has a blue 26-inch octagonal barrel, dovetail gold bead front sight, buckhorn rear sight and eight-cartridge capacity. The left side of the receiver and the tang are drilled and tapped for Vernier or peep sight installation. Approximate MSRP at this time is $2,232.99.

Marlin Model 1894 Guide Gun

Marlin Model 1894 Guide Gun

Made by Ruger, this recent version of the classic Marlin 1894 lever-action features a beautifully finished, black-laminate straight stock and forend. On the butt is a rubber recoil pad and the crisp, aesthetic checkering adds to the looks and all-weather utility of this rifle. The alloy steel receiver and 18.63-inch barrel, which is cold hammer-forged, has a matte-blue finish.

Chambered in .357 Mag./.38 Spl., it has a nine or 10 capacity, depending on the cartridge. The front sight is a hooded gold bead, while the rear sight is an adjustable semi-buckhorn. Other features include a push-button, cross-bolt safety and sling swivels. The MSRP is $1,279 (UPC 7-36676-70916-8).

Taylor’s & Co. TC73 Lever Action

Taylor’s & Co. TC73 Lever Action

This replica of the Winchester 1873 was announced several months ago, but will hopefully be available soon. It is the first firearm from Taylor’s to be 100 percent American-made. It’s also chambered for the 9mm Luger cartridge. While not a “cowboy cartridge,” it is readily available and economically priced. As you found out earlier, there are also six-shooters being made to take this cartridge.

This is a top-of-the-line lever-gun with an 18-inch suppressor-ready, blued-steel barrel with an adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight and a white bead front sight. The receiver, hammer and lever are color case-hardened, plus the action is Taylor Tuned with a 3- to 4-pound trigger pull. Fashioned from walnut, the buttstock has a rubber buttpad and the forend has a blued steel cap. MSRP is $1,999 (UPC 810012513166).

Winchester Ranger .22 Rifle

Winchester Ranger .22 Rifle

Although trotted out at the 2024 SHOT Show, it’s going to be new again for 2025, as it did not make it to production. This little lever-gun is chambered in .22 LR, has a 20.5-inch steel barrel, aluminum alloy receiver, and a matte black finish, plus Grade 1 walnut buttstock and forend with a satin oil finish. Net weight is just 5 pounds, 4 ounces and the cartridge capacity is 15 rounds.

Some of its features include an action with “Light Operating Forces” making lever manipulation fast and easy. The trigger is adjustable for over-travel, it has easy takedown for cleaning and storage, a three-position hammer, plus the receiver is grooved for optical sights. The rear sight is adjustable and the front sight post is hooded for protection. MSRP is $429.99 (UPC 048702023958).

Cowboy Action Scatter-Guns

Charles Daly Model 500 Field Gun

Charles Daly Model 500 Field Gun

For Cowboy Action Shooting, you can’t beat this side-by-side double from Charles Daly. It’s a 12 gauge with 3-inch chambers, sporting a 20-inch barrel for fast handling. The Charles Daly 500 comes with a Beretta/Benelli Mobil choke system that includes a variety of chokes. This includes Cylinder-bore, Improved Cylinder, Modified, Improved Modified and Full, which adds to the shotgun’s versatility.

The break-open barrels and receiver with box-lock action are steel with a matte black finish. An extractor lifts empty shells about .25 inch for removal. It has a single-selective trigger and manual safety on the tang. The buttstock has a rubber pad, and both it and the forend are checkered walnut. Sling studs are included. The 500 is surprisingly lightweight at 4.5 pounds. MSRP is $666.67 (UPC 8053800946599).

Cimarron Deluxe 1878 Coach Gun

Cimarron Deluxe 1878 Coach Gun

They were called “Coach Guns” because they were the preferred firearm of Old West stagecoach messengers when they rode “shotgun.” A top-shelf offering in this class comes from Cimarron Firearms. This break-open side-by-side double comes in 12 gauge with 2.75-inch chambers, extractors and 20-inch barrels. It also comes with a raised center-rib and bead front sight.

This shotgun has a true side-lock action with exposed hammers, which are actuated by double triggers. All metal furniture contains a rich blue finish, while the pistol-grip buttstock and Schnabel forend are made of fine-grained walnut that is hand checkered for a superior grip. MSRP for this beauty is $690 (SKU DA18782026).

Davide Pedersoli “Wyatt Earp” Side-By-Side Shotgun

Davide Pedersoli “Wyatt Earp” Side-By-Side Shotgun

Reminiscent of the shotgun Wyatt Earp used on his “Vengeance Ride” is this high-end double-gun in 12 gauge with 3-inch chambers and 20-inch barrels. The barrel bores are chrome-lined, have a shell extractor and a raised center-rib, with a bead front sight. Finish on the barrels and trigger guard are a deep blue.

The side-lock action is color case-hardened steel and has exposed “Colt-style” hammers that can be cocked together effortlessly. On the side of the receiver is engraved “WYATT EARP.” It also has double triggers and a manual safety on the tang. The pistol grip buttstock is checkered, and it and the forend are fashioned from rich walnut. List price is $1,799 (Model S707).

Heritage Mfg. Badlander

Heritage Mfg. Badlander

Besides offering lever-action rifles, Heritage is also in the shotgun market. Their budget-priced, cowboy-type scatter-gun is the Badlander. This side-by-side break-open double gun has short 18.5-inch barrels that are cylinder-bore choked with an extractor. There’s a manual tang safety and double triggers.

Chambered in 12 and 20 gauge, it comes with a box-lock action, while the receiver and barrels have a black chrome finish. The center rib between the barrels makes a shallow trough that puts your eye right on the brass bead front sight. The walnut stock and forend are dark-stained and checkered. MSRP is $839.99 (UPC7-27962-70911-5), but street price is much less.

Heritage Mfg. Coachwhip Shotgun

2025 Cowboy Gun Introductions - Heritage Mfg. Coachwhip Shotgun

An even newer smooth-bore double-gun from Heritage is the Coachwhip. A bit more upscale, this break-open side-by-side 12 gauge also has 18.5-inch barrels, an extractor and the same sighting arrangement as the Badlander.

The barrels on this model are stainless steel with a black chrome finish. It has true side-locks with exposed hammers, which along with the receiver are color case-hardened. A manual safety is mounted on the tang and double triggers control which barrel you fire. The Coachwhip has an attractive Turkish walnut buttstock and forend, both of which are checkered. This is a shotgun your great-grandad would be proud to own. The MSRP is $984.99 (UPC 7-27962-70911-7).
