News From the Floor at SHOT Show 2024

shot show 2024

Every January, the shooting, hunting and outdoor industries meet in Las Vegas. This is where thousands of manufacturers, vendors and buyers discuss issues surrounding hunting and firearms. It is also where companies introduce their latest and greatest products. SHOT Show 2024 bodes well for the upcoming year.

Of course, most people can’t this attend industry-only convention. So, the GunBroker.com editorial team will be providing breaking updates direct from the SHOT Show 2024 floor. Be sure to check back regularly throughout the week to see what we find.

Winchester Super-X High Velocity Loads for Upland and Small Game

Winchester Super-X High Velocity

1:20 p.m. — Winchester has introduced some new high-velocity loads for upland and small game hunters. These loads feature 1-1/4-ounce payloads in No. 4, 5 and 6 shot at a velocity of 1,450 feet-per-second.

The Super-X line was developed in 1921 by none other than John Olin himself. It also fundamentally changed the ammunition landscape at the time. To this day, Super-X continues to be popular with hunters because of its effectiveness in the field.

The company also introduced new .400 Legend offerings, including Deer Season XP, Super Suppressed and Power-Point. The .400 Legend is a straight-wall cartridge popular with both hunters and sport shooters. Its straight-walled design allows it to be used in areas that limit bottle-neck cartridges.

The .400 Legend features similar energy at the .450 Bushmaster with lower recoil. As such, this round is significantly more power than many popular deer calibers, while producing less recoil.

Bond Arms Honey B & Rowdy XL

11:45 a.m. — Bond Arms just keeps bringing out interesting derringers, with the company’s latest being a .22 Mag. and a budget-friendly .45 Colt/.410.

The Honey B is challenging the perception of the .22 Magnum as an unconventional choice for defensive pistols. Of course, this derringer is available in multiple other chamberings, such as 9mm, .380 ACP and .38 Spl. The Honey B features extended black B6 resin grips mounted on a stainless-steel frame. The frame incorporates a trigger guard directly into the milling, and a low-profile takedown lever is positioned on the left-hand side near the cross-hammer safety push button.

The Rowdy XL combines ambitious features with an affordable price point. Chambered in .45 Colt/.410, Rowdy XL sets itself apart with its extended grip, meticulously crafted from B6 resin, seamlessly integrating with the robust stainless-steel frame. Bond uses a blasted finish for both the barrel and frame, as opposed to a polished sheen to reduce costs. Priced nearly $250 lower than comparable alternatives, the Rowdy XL delivers exceptional quality and makes a compelling case for an affordable choice. List price on the Rowdy XL is $349.

Pulsar Merger Duo NXP50

Pulsar Merger Duo NXP50

9:59 a.m. — Thermal and night vision has made huge strides from its early days. In fact, Pulsar has made one heck of a jump with its Merger Duo NXP50. This binocular combines the power of thermal and digital night vision in a single device.

Even better, this binocular’s ergonomic design mirrors classic daytime binoculars. This means it feels almost just like those standard binoculars that you’ve carried for years. With these multispectral binoculars users can easily swap between thermal imaging and digital night vision.

See up to 2,000 yards with 3-24X magnification in thermal mode or utilize the 2-16x digital magnification in digital night vision mode for versatility in any light conditions. The Merger Duo NXP50 pierces through fog, smog, rain and dense foliage, revealing warm-blooded creatures with ease.

New Federal Prairie Storm Upland Loads

8:57 a.m. — Those who chase upland game knows how tough birds can be, especially pheasants. That’s why hunters should consider the new Federal Prairie Storm Upland loads, such as the all-new Prairie Storm Bismuth Blend product line; Federal also added to the Prairie Storm FS Lead existing lineup.

Prairie Storm Bismuth Blend is a new line consisting of six loads. These upland loads feature Prairie Storm’s FLITECONTROL FLEX wad and Premium steel shot, No. 3 or 4, with the added performance boost of HEVI-Bismuth pellets, No. 5 or 6, alloyed and cast in Sweet Home, Ore. The new product line is initially available in a total of six 12- and 20-gauge load options.

“HEVI-Bismuth is an industry standard for Bismuth pellets, which has made it the great equalizer on game birds when needing to meet non-toxic requirements,” said Josh Vickers, Federal’s Research & Development Engineer. “Adding HEVI-Bismuth to the Prairie Storm family gives hunters a product that not only meets non-toxic requirements but also adds down range lethality due to increased pellet kinetic energy in part to density over steel alternatives.”

Stoeger M3500 Predator/Turkey Shotgun

4:32 p.m. — With the turkey season coming up fast, turkey shotguns are catching my eye, including the Stoeger M3500. The M3500 Predator/Turkey begins with a 24-inch ported barrel chambered for 3.5-inch 12-gauge. Fitted with a vented rib and high-visibility red-bar front sight, the M3500 Predator/Turkey is ready right out of the box. For those who prefer an optic, the receiver comes drilled and tapped for mounting.

Supporting the barreled receiver is Stoeger’s SteadyGrip stock system with a vertical pistol grip. A recoil pad combines with the ported barrel to mitigate felt recoil when shooting heavy magnum loads. For turkeys, the shotgun is covered in Mossy Oak Overwatch camo, and it has integrated sling studs. This shotgun is going to jelly some head this spring.

The Ounce Pistol

3:56 p.m. — Every so often, you come across that really weird item that is actually a pretty cool idea. This .22LF pistol was actually introduced last year at SHOT, but not many heard about it; haven’t seen much about it this year either. However, this very interesting concealed-carry gun has quite a story behind it.

The designer, Bill Osborne, had a family member attacked, partly because she didn’t carry a gun. Since he is a mechanical engineer, he decided could do something about those people who won’t carry a gun for a variety of reasons, including fear of it going off. He called his solution the Ounce Pistol, with the name coming from Benjamin Franklin’s famous quote, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

The Ounce is a foldable .22LR semi auto. In the closed position, it can fit almost anywhere, such as pockets and purses. Even better, this pistol cannot be fired when closed; it doesn’t even look like a gun when closed. However, it opens very easily to reveal a barrel and trigger in a situation.

Now I haven’t gotten to test or shoot one of these micro-compact pistols, and I don’t really need one; I’ve been carrying for close to 30 years, but this is a neat idea for those needing something to carry that is not traditional.

CZ 600 AMERICAN Rifle

CZ 600 AMERICAN Rifle

3:20 p.m. — Hunting has long been a national tradition, so a good hunting rifle is pretty important. The CZ 600 AMERICAN honors the American hunting heritage with its hardwood stock and blued metal rifle. In fact, it integrates the lines and traditional styling of a classic American hunting rifle with the advanced features of a modern bolt-action rifle.

Its accuracy comes from a cold hammer-forged, medium-contour, suppressor-ready barrel. It also features a two-position safety, 60-degree bolt throw and a single-stage trigger with four adjustable weight settings. It even comes in seven popular chamberings, including 6.5 Creedmoor, .308 Win. and .300 Win. Mag. This new rifle is even covered by CZ’s Transferable Limited Lifetime Warranty.

Leupold Mark 4HD Riflescopes

11:12 am. — Regarding riflescopes, Leupold goes back forever. Everybody’s father or  grandfather used to carry a Leupold. Of course, optics have continued to improve and Leupold still leads the game, whether hunting or shooting.

The new Mark 4HD riflescopes features a 4:1 zoom ratio and five magnification ranges, providing accurate and reliable options for close-quarter engagements, long-range dominance and everything in between.

The five magnification ranges available include: 1-4.5×24, 2.5-10×42, 4.5-18×52, 6-24×52 and 8- 32×56. The 1-4.5×24 and 2.5-10×42 models feature 30mm maintubes. All 1-4.5×24 models are Second Focal Plane, while the 2.5-10×42 model is available in First (FFP) or Second Focal Plane (SFP). The three higher magnification options have 34mm maintubes and are all FFP optics. MIL or MOA adjustments and reticles are available throughout the line. Illuminated reticles are also available.

Benelli Montefeltro Ultra Light Shotgun

Benelli Montefeltro Ultra Light Shotgun

10:50 a.m. — Lugging a shotgun around all day on a bird hunt can be a chore, so Benelli introduced the Montefeltro Ultra Light to make it a little bit easier.

Featuring Benelli’s Inertia Driven system to deliver clean operation and reliable cycling with any load, this semi-auto weighs a mere 6.3 pounds in 12 gauge and 5.3 pounds in 20 gauge. It also uses shorter barrels, only 26 inches in 12 and 24 in 20. The shorter length and lightweight should translate into faster shouldering and shots in the field.

Luckily, this shotgun still looks good using A-grade walnut with a satin finish on the stock and forend, along with a gloss black anodized receiver. The barrel is Crio-treated gloss blue and the stock and receiver comes with Benelli’s WeatherCoat finish.

Aimpoint ACRO S-2 9 MOA – Red-dot With Integrated Shotgun Rib Mount

10:12 a.m. — Red dots have jumped in popularity, mostly because of us with weakening eyes, but also because these optics really help with target acquisition. While most used them on rifles and handguns, some have released these dots also help on shotguns.

The ACRO S-2 comes with an integrated mount that attaches to the rib of shotguns. Sure, ribs vary some, but not much, so there are only a few adaptors needed. These red dots should be awesome on turkeys, but it looks like they also work well on flying targets, especially for new shooter and those with cross-eye dominance.

Stoeger STR-9 Combat X 9mm

Stoeger STR-9 Combat X 9mm

9:30 a.m. — Yea, I know. It still doesn’t seem completely right that Stoeger has a handguns. However, it is actually a pretty good handgun. Well, the company has expanded the line with the STR-9 Combat X.

Based on Stoeger’s STR-9 polymer-frame striker-fired handgun series, the STR-9 Combat X hasd a longer frame that extends to the front of the slide. It also has a three-slot accessory rail for a light or laser, and an enhanced beavertail above the grip for purchase. The backstrap is interchangeable so shooters can customize the grip to match hand size and glove use.

It even comes with an undercut trigger guard and an oversized mag well to facilitate fast magazine swaps. This is aided by an ambidextrous slide stop lever for use by left- and right-hand shooters.

Mossberg Shotguns

4:55 p.m. — Swung by to see what Mossberg was bringing out and saw that the company is getting serious about turkeys. So serious, in fact, that they had a whole row of turkey camo shotguns just waiting to hit the woods.

The ones that really caught my eye, however, were the double barrels. That’s right, Mossberg has introduced three double-barrel turkey shotguns, one in 12, one in 20 and one in 28. These 20-inch barrel shotguns allow shooters to use two different chokes, such as turkey choke and improved cylinder. Imagine being able to swap from long range shots to up close with a flip of a button.

Mossberg also showed me something that got the old eyes thinking. Mossberg has developed a patent-pending method to direct mount micro red-dot optics. That’s right, direct mount, no plate. This is going to be a game changer for turkeys, but the rep mentioned waterfowl, which really make me wonder. Regardless, Mossberg isn’t just sitting back on its classic standbys.

Taurus Deputy, Defender & More

Taurus Deputy

2:41 p.m. — Over the last few years, Taurus has made some real improvement, including bringing out some very interesting firearms. To start, Taurus is now in the bolt-action rifle market with the Expedition. This .308 features an 18-inch barrel that is hammer forged and ended up with lines on it that look almost like an octagon. It also comes with a threaded barrel, accessory rail and a flat scalloped stock that fits nicely into gun rests and onto sandbags.

Taurus has also introduced the 327 Defender T.O.R.O. This six-shot revolver has plenty of power with the .327 Mag. This double-action revolver, the hammer is bobbed, is a fighting gun with fixed sights, a smooth trigger and a bobbed hammer so nothing can hang it up in the draw. However, it also comes with the Taurus Optics Ready Option, meaning adding an optic is quite easy.

Taurus 327 TORO

What caught me by surprise, however, is that Taurus is now making cowboy guns. The Taurus Deputy is a single-action revolver harkening back to old days. Available in .357 Mag. and .45 Colt, the finish on this gun is almost beyond words. Taurus calls it polished black and it has a sheen. It used a transfer-bar for safety, but unlike other single-action offerings, users must half-cock the gun for loading and unloading. It even has four clicks when drawing back the hammer, making it even sound like it’s from the Old West.

Finally, I got my hands on the Judge Home Defender. This is a gun that seems almost without purpose, but that’s not the case. It’s the Home Defender. Put a laser on the included accessory rail and folks could clear a hall at hip level. Besides, what purpose does a person need to want a gun. This Judge would be fun.

New Products from Galco

Galco Hawkeye IWB

No trip to SHOT is complete without dropping by to talk to Mike about the new Galco products. Galco, the maker of the shoulder holster used by Don Johnson on Miami Vice, has been on the forefront of holster manufacturing for as long as I can remember.

For 2024, Galco has brought out a few new products, including the Hawkeye IWB. This is a reinforced opening holster that includes a cutout for a pistol optic. What’s really nice, though, is that the cutout allows the optic to be inside the pants, but users can still reholster with one hand. And it is available for both semi-auto pistols and revolvers.

Falco Flashlight Carrier

The company has also improved the 2x2x2 Ammo Carrier and the Cobra Speedloader Carrier by reinforcing them to prevent the carrier from turning upside down when open. Galco also brought out a Flashlight Carrier in either black or tan for those of us who really like having an EDC light. This holster is just the right size for those smaller, single-battery flashlights that conceal carriers prefer. And they even partnered with Streamlight to produce a flashlight that fits perfectly.

GLOCK Brings Out More Gs

GLOCK G29 & G30

12:15 p.m. — GLOCK pistol has long been popular on GunBroker.com. In fact, the G19 is the third most purchased pistol and the sixth overall firearm. Needless to say, I was all excited to go by the GLOCK booth.

I had already heard about the G49, which feature a G19 frame on a G17 slide. GLOCK lovers have been waiting on this for a long time. It is, however, going to be distributed only through Talo.

This Austrian company has also brought out a pair of baby monsters, the G29 and the G30, yea, I also wish they would come up with names instead of just numbers. These subcompact pistols come in 10mm and .45 ACP, respectively. These guns are going to going to be “snippy” in the words of one GLOCK rep. I’d say that’s an understatement. The 10mm G29 would make a great bear country self-defense gun, especially with its 10+1 capacity, but that is about it.

Safariland APEX Concealable Vest System

Safariland APEX Concealable Vest System

8:22 a.m. — Armor just keeps getting more popular with numerous new offerings being shown at SHOT Show 2024. And these offerings keep getting easier to hide. To that end, Safariland has brought out the APEX Concealable Vest System.

At the heart of APEX lies a four-piece vest design that integrates two side panels with front and rear counterparts to provide maneuverability. This unique configuration allows for articulation, ensuring the armor panels move with the body, providing coverage during every twist and turn of duty. The APEX is light, mobile and comes with an extra-long tail for staying tucked.

Ruger LC Carbine in 45 ACP

8:08 a.m. — Ruger continues to put out some really cool firearms, with the latest being the LC Carbine. Chamber in .45 ACP, this lightweight carbine features a 16.25-inch threaded barrel, adjustable folding stock, Ruger Rapid Deploy folding sights and ambidextrous controls.

It also comes with free-float handguard with M-LOK attachment slots, QD attachment points for slings and a full-length Picatinny rail for optics. It is even compatible with most off-the-shelf, Glock-pattern, .45 Auto magazines. What’s even nicer is that the charging handle and magazine release are reversible, as well as the bolt release.

CZ SHADOW 2 COMPACT

CZ SHADOW 2 COMPACT

7:45 a.m. — A lot of companies are bringing out smaller versions of popular pistols, and CZ is no different. One new offering from the company includes the SHADOW 2 COMPACT.

Based off the full size, this 9mm semi-auto is smaller for carry. It’s not a whole lot smaller, but it has excellent ergonomics, and it comes with a 15-round magazine. CZ used a forge aluminum frame and it comes with a height-adjustable rear sight and a fiber-optic front sight. It also comes with an optics ready interface.

The grips are silver and feel really nice in the hand. At the same time, the magazine release is reversible and the manual safety is ambidextrous. It is kind of a 1911 style, but it is significantly smaller, which is the only issue I see. It needs to be just a little bigger for better contact. The trigger, however, is extremely nice in both double and single action.

Colt Blued Python

Colt Blued Python

9:52 p.m. — When Colt brought out the new Python, shooters were thrilled; the Python was back. However, some folks wanted more than just a stainless version. Colt listened and just introduced a blued Python.

This .357 Mag. revolver, which means it can handle .38 Spl., features six-round capacity, adjustable rear target sight; interchangeable front sight, with the red ramp sight included, and a recessed target crown barrel. It also comes with a full-length vent rib and extra steel in the top strap. This increases the strength of the frame.

Available with 6-inch or 4.25-inch barrels, this revolver has excellent wood grips and a very smooth trigger. The 4.25-inch model has excellent balance in the hands.

Premier Body Armor Everyday Armor T-Shirt

Premier Body Armor Everyday T-Shirt

2:38 p.m. — Between meetings, I like to walk for lesser-known stuff, or least items I might not see because of the sheer size of SHOT Show 2024. This year, I’ve noticed a whole lot of armor companies putting out products to civilians. Yes, law enforcement is still the biggest customer for most of these companies, but more regular folks are looking at armor.

There has been a big push the last few years with bulletproof backpack inserts. And there is nothing wrong with that thinking, but it is not a bad idea for mom or dad to have some protection as well. To that end, Premier Body Armor has the Everyday Armor T-Shirt.

This thing is light and very concealable. It’s an insert that can be removed from the shirt, which is extra long for easy tucking. What I like best about it is its price of less than $300. The bulletproof panel is only about eight by 12 inches, but that is enough to cover the heart/lungs. This armor could just about be a daily insurance program. Of course, the company produces body armor for all needs both civilian and law enforcement.

Bond Arm LVRB & Cyclops

2:21 p.m. — Last year, Bond Arms showed a lever-action rifle at its booth; it was a prototype. They had no idea the fervor it would cause. But because of that excitement, Bond Arms got serious and has showed up with the LVRB lever action.

This rifle is freaky looking, but awesome at the same time. Currently, it is only chambered in 5.56/.223, and the company plans on keeping it in the AR calipers. Now, more than one company had introduced a tactical lever action. However, that is not what Bond did. They created a modern lever action by updating almost everything.

This rifle has an internal hammer and a pressure safety, similar to a 1911. The rifle can’t fire unless the lever is fully depressed. It also features a crossbolt safety, but that is a little small in my opinion. This rifle should be available in four or five months, and I think it is going to sell.

Bond also brought out its new Cyclops in .45-70 and .50 AE. This single shot has a longer barrel and a new grip designed about these big rounds. It also has a whole lot of extra metal underneath the barrel, which, according to Bond, makes the gun much more easier to handle that one would realize.

Savage Arms

Savage 1911

11:17 a.m. — Savage continues to expand on its 110 rifle line, with a 110 Trail Hunter. While this rifle has been out for a while, this is the first time I’ve handled one. The rubberized stock was nice; there is no doubt that a person can hold onto this rifle in any condition even with thick gloves. It is a little heavier than I realized, but they’ve made some nice improvements. The bolt throw is much nicer, and the bolt release is now on top.

The Stance was also quite nice for a company best known for rifles. This little compact pistol is easily concealable with the stopping power of a 9mm. I really liked that one could choose a manual safety if desired.

Another neat option is the 110 Magpul Scout. This rifle uses a Magpul stock, but also comes with updated peep sights and a full-length rail on top for mounting optics. It is a nice option for Scout Rifle lovers.

Savage Magpul Scout, SHOT Show 2024

My favorite at this booth, however, had to be the company’s 1911. This pistol felt nice, and it comes with a variety of options including a rail for attaching lights and lasers. It is a government size, but there will probably be smaller versions eventually. They would not confirm or deny when asked.

Springfield Armory – Booth Visit

9:52 a.m. — Swung by Springfield Armory to check out new products, along with anything I might have missed over the last few years. I’ve seen most of the offerings, but hadn’t really gotten to get up close and personal. As such, I had a couple of surprises.

The first came from the ECHELON, Springfield’s striker-fired, duty-sized 9mm. Sure, I’ve seen the coverage, but hadn’t had one in my hand. The first thing I noticed was the Tritium U-Dot sights. I like these. They are easy to see and lined up perfectly from the go. Then, I discovered the Variable Interface System. With the VIS, you can attach almost any micro optic without an adaptor plate. That could be a game changer.

The last product that caught my eye was the SA-35. This pistol is a Hi Power, without the issues of the original. John Moses Browning was an amazing designer, but he was limited to the technology of his time. Springfield didn’t have this problem with the SA-35. The magazine disconnect is gone, which greatly improves the trigger. It also comes with a few improvements that make it nicer, including a 15-round magazine. However, this gun can use the original magazines. The best part is that this gun looks and feels like a Hi Power, but its better in many ways, including price.

Monday, Jan. 22 — SHOT Show 2024

Daniel Defense H9 — Company’s First Handgun

Daniel Defense H9, SHOT Show 2024

7:28 p.m. — Sometimes, I’m surprised. I’ve loved Daniel Defense for a while, but it never hit my radar that the company would introduce a handgun. Well, they did with the Daniel Defense H9. And it looks like it might be a winner.

“After years of research, detailed design work, and testing, we couldn’t be more excited to launch the DANIEL H9,” said Marty Daniel, founder of Daniel Defense.

The company claims this semi-auto pistol mixes the best aspects of the 1911 with a striker fired. It has the ergonomics, pointability, and straight-pull trigger of the 1911. However, it also has ambidextrous controls, an accessory rail and optics compatibility. It even comes with a reversible magazine release.

Now I haven’t gotten my hands on this gun yet, and I mean yet, but I will. First at the Daniel Defense booth, and, hopefully, later for a review.

HI Viz Sights

Hi Viz Sights

2:26 p.m. — Interesting sight from Hi Viz. Double dot design, but instead of aligning several dots in two planes, you line them up until the red front dot disappears and the green rear dot illuminates.

Super instinctive and quick to pick up. Fiber optics mean no batteries to change but keeps the speed and intuitiveness of a red dot.

Henry Supreme Lever Action

1:54 a.m. — Continuing the lever gun theme, Henry has jumped into the magazine-fed market with their AR-mag based Supreme. Chambered in 5.56mm and 300 Blackout, these models have centerline safeties, shrouded hammers and threaded barrels.

These should be available this summer, with MSRPs still being finalized.

CZ Scorpion EVO 3 S1 Carbine in 22 LR

CZ Scorpion EVO 3 S1 Carbine, SHOT Show 2024

10:07 a.m. — CZ lovers are going to be happy with the announcement of the Scorpion EVO 3 S1 Carbine. This .22LR carbine contains many of the features of the original Scorpion, but in a great, high-volume caliber.

It comes a 16-inch threaded barrel with a cylindrical compensator. Of course, it can be easily removed to attach a suppressor. It also features a folding/telescopic shoulder stock for easy transport and adjusting length of pull. CZ even added adjustable sights and a long Picatinny rail for attaching optics on its fiberglass-reinforced polymer frame. And the whole package weighs only 6 pounds.

Any .22LR lover should consider this carbine. It would make a great plinker or trainer. I haven’t seen a price yet, but would figure it would cost around the same amount at the original.

Beretta 1301 Tactical Mod 2 Shotgun

Beretta 1301 Tactical Mod 2 Shotgun

9:35 a.m. — Beretta continues to bring the thunder in the tactical shotgun game with the 1301 Tactical Mod 2. Some of upgrades from the original generation are smart and make the fighting semiauto 12gauge even more capable.

A new semi-flat trigger delivers a more straight-back feel to the press and turns the scattergun into a precision slug machine. The Pro-Lifter is a welcome upgrade as speed feeding the magazine can be devastating to the thumbnail without an improved lifter. Across the board, new furniture features a more aggressive texture, QD sling points and M-Lok attachment points. The new two-piece magazine system allows for the use of magazine extensions, which was an original sticking point in the original 1301 Tactical.

Smith & Wesson 1854 Lever-Action Rifle

Smith & Wesson 1854 Lever-Action Rifle, SHOT Show 2024

9:22 a.m. — Smith & Wesson has been teasing a new product for the past few weeks, and while guesses have been all over the map, we can finally let the cat out of the bag. The new 1854 Lever-Action Rifle is here and it’s a bridge between S&W’s early days as Volcanic Repeating Arms and the modern manufacturer we know today.

I got hands-on with the rifle at Smith’s media event last night, and it’s an exceptionally fine long arm. Look for a deeper dive into this rifle soon. For now, know that while this may seem like a throwback, it’s really a step forward in lever actions. The 1854 shows what the lever gun can be with modern design, manufacturing and materials.

A stunner to see, the 1854 is a workhorse at heart with an M-Lok forend, XS Sights peep sight and a Picatiny rail that screams for a red dot. Chambered in .44 Mag., the 1854 has a removable magazine tube for quick and safe unloading. Two models will be available initially, a two-tone Stainless Steel with black furniture and a limited-edition gloss black PVD finish with a walnut stock and forend in a satin finish.

Norma Precision XTREME LR-22

Norma XTREME LR-22

7:50 p.m. — The .22LR is one of the most popular rounds in the country. It is inexpensive to shoot and has very little recoil, so it’s a great plinking and training round. However, it’s not really known for long distance. That is until Norma introduced the XTREME LR-22.

Through a patented bullet design that features elongated bullet tip and a world’s first rocket tail, Norma has created a .22LR round that fires beyond 300 yards. The idea is that the streamlined base causes less negative pressure at the tail, which is the main reason for the deceleration of a projectile. This helps the projectile maintain speed over longer distances.

It also used a higher velocity, along with increased bullet weight, which reduces wind drift. This should allow hunters to reach out on game and long-range shooters to train at a lower price.

Tisas USA Introduces PX-9 Carry in Three Configurations

10:02 a.m. — Those looking for an inexpensive carry gun might want to consider one of the new Tisas USA PX-9 Carry. These compact pistols meet the requirements of a decent gun at an affordable price.

With the PX-9 Carry Tisas took the best features of its PX-9 Duty and shrunk them down for a more concealable and easier-to-carry pistol. All three feature a polymer frame, forged steel slide, reversible magazine release and trigger safety. Two of the new models have cut outs for optics, while one features an ambidextrous thumb safety.

Shooters can choose which they prefer. However, there is one concern. All three have an adjustable rear sight, which I recommend they replace. Defensive pistols get handled roughly and I don’t want one with a sight that can be moved easily.

Saturday, Jan. 20 — SHOT Show 2024

Rossi Rio Bravo Tactical

Rossi Rio Bravo Tactical, SHOT Show 2024

3:21 p.m. — Americans love westerns, so it is fair say we also love lever actions. Those old wood and blue guns make us think of cowboys. However, over the last few years, folks have been putting out less-traditional lever actions like the Rossi Rio Bravo Tactical.

This .22LR rifle is interesting to look at to start. It comes with a synthetic stock, available in black, FDE or ODG, that has sling mount included. The stock and forend is also textured for a secure grip, and contains accessory mounting slots for attaching lights, laser and other interesting toys.

It even comes with a Picatinny rail for mounting optics and a threaded barrel. Its medium-size loop is wrapped in paracord, both for aesthetics and comfort. Of course, having some handy paracord isn’t a bad idea.

The Rio Bravo Tactical might be what people think regarding lever actions, but it is pretty cool to look at and should be a fun little plinker and varmint taker.

CCI Releases Uppercut Defense 22 LR Ammunition

CCI Uppercut .22 LR, SHOT Show 2024

9:53 p.m. — While .22 LR might not be the first caliper thought of when it comes to self-defense, there are some people who chose this diminutive cartridge for a variety of reasons, such as recoil. Of course, it is really no one’s business what someone else chooses for self-defense. To this end, CCI has released Uppercut Defense .22LR ammunition.

CCI designed this ammunition to provide power in short-barreled handguns that has never been seen. It starts with an exclusive 32-grain projectile. Uppercut’s jacketed hollow-point bullet features nose skiving that initiates full and reliable expansion through semi-automatic handguns with 2.5- to 4-inch barrels. It also retains the bullet weight for penetration.

“What makes this product stand out is its plating thickness. Typically, our 22 LR bullets, such as our popular Mini-Mag line, have a thin flash plate that requires wax to keep the barrel from leading,” explained Slinkard. “The heavy copper plating on Uppercut measures six thousandths of an inch. This design feature is a key to its overall effectiveness as a self-defense bullet.”

Now, I’m going to have to get my hands on some of these to be a true believe, but I really like the idea of this. I’ve got some older family members that could benefit from this ammunition.

Tokarev USA Introduces TTF Titan Shotgun

Tokarev USA TTF Titan Shotgun

2:17 p.m. — Semi-auto shotguns make great hunting tools, but they are typically kind of heavy and fairly expensive. Tokarev USA is breaking that mold with its TTF Titan.

This gas-operated 12 gauge measures 38 inches in length with an 18.5-inch barrel. This makes it weigh only 6.1 pounds. It’s dove tail receiver is drilled and tapped for attaching aftermarket sights, but it comes standard with a white-dot front sight. It also accepts Mossberg 500/590 stocks, as the company designed it for aftermarket customization.

However, its greatest attribute is probably its price. The TTF Titan retails for a mere $199. This means it would make an excellent beater or loaner shotgun. It would just be nice if it came with interchangeable chokes instead of a fixed cylinder bore.

Springfield Armory Announces Six New Models of the TRP 1911

12:14 p.m. — The 1911 has been popular for more than 100 years, so it is no surprise that companies keep making new versions of this iconic pistol. Springfield Armory has introduced six new 1911 models based on the FBI’s Hostage Rescue Team’s chosen sidearm.

All versions of the Tactical Response Pistol (TRP) undergo meticulous hand fitting for both form and function. Each pistol begins with a forged frame and slide, which are hand selected for slide-to-frame fit. Springfield then added Hydra VZ Grips and 20 lines per inch checkering on the frame and mainspring housing. All this combines to provide purchase when handling the pistol in all conditions.

The six .45 ACP models are made up of two Classic models, two Rail models and two Carry Contour models. Each are designed to provide shooters with desired features for specific uses. Shooters can choose the model for their needs.

CVA Cascade SR-80 Scout Rifle

5:45 p.m. — He may no longer be with us, but Lt. Col. Jeff Cooper greatly affected the firearms industry, especially regarding self-defense. However, he was also a big proponent of the Scout Rifle. He believed a Scout Rifle should be handy, light, fast and powerful. That’s what CVA came up with when it designed the Cascade SR-80 Scout Rifle.

The SR-80 weighs 7.3 pounds with an 18-inch barrel. So, it provides maneuverability in any situation. It also is chambered in .308 Win. and .350 Legend, so it can handle almost anything. The rifle features a 70-degree bolt throw for quick action, a detachable magazine, adjustable length of pull via a removeable spacer and a radial muzzle brake. It even comes with a forward-mounted Picatinny rail for red-dot and long-eye-relief optics. CVA lists the MSRP as $925.

Rossi USA R95 in 45-70 Government

4:15 p.m. — While the R95 has been out for a while, but it was only available in one chambering — .30-30 Win. Well, Rossi decided to offer a second chambering, and it’s one folks are going to like. The new R95 comes in .45-70 Govt.

Available in three barrel lengths – 16.5 inches, 20 inches, and 22 inches – the Rossi R95 45-70 Govt. features a hammer-forged barrel and a hardwood walnut finish. It also comes drilled and tapped for easily mounting optics.

However, its greatest feature comes from its compatibility. Rossi collaborated with major aftermarket companies to ensure compatibility with the latest grips, rails and accessories. So, it won’t be difficult to trick these rifles out quickly.

Hammerli introduces Force B1 Toggle Action Rimfire

12:45 p.m. — Hammerli, a brand often thought of for great barrels, has dropped a new .22LR rifle that looks really smart.

The Force B1 is a beautifully designed straight-pull toggle bolt rimfire. If you’ve never shot a straight-pull, they are super fast and make follow up shots super fast.

What makes this interesting is a couple of things. First, it takes 10/22 trigger groups, so right out of the gate it has dozens of options for triggers out there. Second, it has a quick-change barrel so you can go from .22LR to .22WMR without tools.

Add in it uses Ruger mags and is threaded for a can and you have one heck of a rimfire rifle.

Walther Launches Two Steel Frame PDP Pistols

Walther Arms PDP Steel

12:20 p.m. — While lots of products are introduced at SHOT Show, some companies like to announce early to stand out from the crowd. To that end, Walther Arms has already announced an expansion of its PDP line with two new steel frames models.

“Adding the PDP Steel Frame to our offerings, in full size and compact, allows us to continue to revolutionize what our consumers want and need,” said Jens Krogh, vice president of marketing and product development for Walther Arms, Inc. “The versatile features combined with the steel frame, makes this an unparalleled performance-enhancing powerhouse.”

Both offerings come optics ready with a Performance Duty Trigger and wrap around grips. They also come three magazines — 18 rounds for full size and 15 rounds for compact — SuperTerrain serrations and some extra weight. The idea for this is to reduce felt recoil to provide faster follow-up shots. The full size features a 4.5-inch barrel with a half-inch reduction for the compact. The compact is also .4 inches shorter in height than the full size, which measures 5.7 inches. Of course, both come with Walther’s well-known ergonomics.
