In 2023, Weatherby introduced the Model 307 action as an innovative and value-rich option for shooters. Well, the company has now announced the Model 307 Alpine CT, which features a carbon-fiber stock and barrel for just at just over $2K.
The Model 307 is a 2-lug design equipped with an M-16 style extractor for smooth and reliable cycling. The bolt has a tool-less disassembly feature that makes it easy to break down for cleaning and field maintenance. The action’s cylindrical design accommodates Stiller/Savage scope mounts and is threaded for 8-40 screws. The Alpine CT model comes equipped with Peak 44’s Picatinny rail (JRAIL) making it optics-ready out of the box.
Peak 44 Bastion Stock
The Peak 44 Bastion was built to be the lightest and strongest vertical grip carbon fiber stock on the market. Weighing in at just 24 ounces, the Bastion utilizes aerospace materials that have incredible strength-to-weight ratios.
Each stock uses a patented carbon-fiber bedding block. This slip of carbon engages the front recoil lug and transfers the force of the recoil directly to the exterior shell. For the shooter this means less felt recoil. To further help manage the effects of recoil the Bastion’s 3D Hex recoil pad was designed to stretch the time component of recoil. As recoil is absorbed into the pad’s honeycomb structure, the hexagonal voids begin to collapse and disperse the recoil’s energy when compared to traditional pads.
BSF Barrels
BSF uses carbon fiber in an interesting way, leading to unmatched accuracy and heat dispersion properties. After BSF turns down a 416R stainless-steel match barrel they sleeve it with carbon fiber and load it under tension. Because it’s under tension, the rifling stays straighter as the barrel heats up. This results in a stiffer, more rigid barrel.
With BSF’s proprietary method, 95 percent of the carbon fiber does not touch the contoured barrel, creating air gaps and allowing air to foil around the steel and cool the barrel faster. The high-quality carbon fiber is designed to move at the same expansion rate as the 416R stainless steel resulting in a vibration dampening effect.
All Weatherby rifles are guaranteed to shoot a 3-shot SUB-MOA group at 100 yards with factory-loaded ammunition. All barrels are threaded and 2-inches shorter than Weatherby’s standard offering. The Weatherby Model 307 Alpine CT also comes with a Accubrake DST, which is a side-ported directional self-timing brake. All metal work comes with a weather-resistant and durable Cerakote coating. It also comes with a TriggerTech adjustable trigger.
