Video Transcript

Hey, I’m Jeremy Stafford with Mossberg, I’m the Law Enforcement Military Sales Manager, and we’re going to talk about one of the most searched guns on GunBroker and on Google, it turns out. And that’s our classic Mossberg 500. So the 500 is kind of like the granddaddy of all of our current tactical pump shotguns. It’s the granddaddy of the 590 and granddaddy to 590A1, and it’s kind of like the mean uncle of the Mossberg Maverick 88. So what the 500 brings to the table is this tank-mounted safety, which is kind of doing it differently than some of our competitors have done, and one of the great things about this is it’s ambidextrous but it also allows our shooters to maintain a master grip, and not have to move their hand or their trigger finger to manipulate the action. So I can access the action release back here, keep my finger off the trigger, access to safety on top, and I can get that gun ready to go without ever having to go near the trigger.

So one of the other things that we got going here, is we have the twin action bars, which is great, cuz if one cracks, which is actually a common malfunction with pump action shotguns, then you have the other one keep the gun going. We also have an aluminum alloy receiver, which makes the gun lightweight, but it’s also not front-heavy because the bolt steel, you still get that famous steel-to-steel lock up with the bolt, and unlike some of our competitors, we actually have dual extractors. So you’re not just relying on what extractor get the round out of the chamber. Now, you have two of them, you know, if you’re shooting cheap ammo or the gun’s dirty, you have a little bit of peace of mind that you’re going to be able to keep this gun going in adverse situations. We’ve been making the gun since 61. We kind got it figured out by now, one of the things that you’ll see with the classic 500 is it threads at the front.

If you need something that’s a little more robust, if you thinking, “You know, I’m going to be in a steer situation,” you can always upgrade to a 590 or a 590A1, where you have that clean through magazine tube or the heavy wall barreled, but for the vast majority of what people need a pump action shotgun for, the tried-and-true 500, it’s really hard to go wrong. If you’re interested in researching it, you can go ahead and check us out at Mossberg.com. If you’re interested in purchasing it, rather, get your butt to GunBroker.com. Put a bid in, get you a Mossberg 500.
