Mossberg 590A1 Professional meets military specs and has been upgraded for current law enforcement needs.

590A1 Professional

Durability: The 590A1 Professional comes with a Cerakote finish, providing better corrosion resistance and abrasion protection compared to older coatings like matte bluing or parkerizing.

Designed for Modern Law Enforcement: The 590A1 Professional meets military specs and has been upgraded for current law enforcement needs. The design addresses the cramped interior of modern police cruisers, where space is limited due to new tech like computers and cooling systems.

Sighting System: The low-profile ghost ring sight system is designed to be compatible with modern ammunition, such as flight control tactical buckshot, keeping shots tight at around 25 yards. This system can also support tactical slugs with a range out to 75 yards. The sights are optimized for both short-range buckshot and longer-range slugs, providing versatility.

Ergonomics and Adaptability: For newer and smaller shooters, Mossberg offers an ultra-compact stock with an adjustable length of pull (from under 12 inches to 13 inches). This helps ensure a better fit and reduces discomfort from recoil, especially for smaller officers.

Red Dot Compatibility: A rear sight that pops out allows users to easily mount a red dot sight (RMSC pattern), which is ideal for a more precise aim. This system is particularly beneficial for new or less experienced shooters.

590A1 Specs:

  • 7-Shot and 9-Shot (6-Shot for NFA/Class 3)
  • 12 Gauge
  • MIL-SPEC construction (MIL-S-3443E):
    • Heavy-Walled barrel

940 Professional and 940 SPX

Enhanced Durability: The 940 and SPX feature robust aluminum shrouds, improved gas systems, and reinforced bolt releases, making the shotguns durable and reliable. They are designed to be bomb-proof, with metal sights and minimal plastic components.

Shared Design Elements: Both shotguns share similar sight systems and are part of the Professional series. They are designed with improved gas systems that allow for 1,500-2,000 rounds between cleanings, making maintenance more manageable.

Forend Design: The 940 has a slim forend with M-LOK slots and QD sling swivels. Mossberg’s attention to detail ensures that accessories like flashlights can be easily mounted without overcrowding the front end of the shotgun, unlike some competitor models.

Adjustability: The 940’s stock is fully adjustable for length of pull, cast, comb, and cant, providing a customizable fit for users.

Are these shotguns suitable for civilian use?

Yes, while the 590A1 Professional Series and 940 Pro Tactical SPX are designed with military and law enforcement in mind, they are available for civilian purchase. However, models with shorter barrels (like the 14″ version) may be classified as short-barreled shotguns (SBS) under the National Firearms Act (NFA), requiring additional paperwork and tax stamps for civilian ownership.
